Gestalt Therapy – About My Therapy Training
My therapeutic journey began in Barcelona, and I finished my training in Scarborough. I approach therapy as a grounded, empathetic male therapist, bringing a unique perspective to each encounter. Alongside my therapy work, I’m an artist and creator, and I truly believe that effective therapy is a beautiful form of art in itself.
I offer sessions from a tranquil garden room at my home in Burnby, a peaceful village near Pocklington and York. This space is designed to be comfortable and accessible, with convenient parking and disability access. If you’re seeking a supportive environment where creativity and empathy are integral to the therapeutic process, I welcome you to reach out. Together, we can work toward insight and growth in a calm, inspiring setting.
Therapist – Personal Values.
I grew up on a farm and have since worked in a number of areas, including teaching English abroad, the trades, and the arts. This has given me a broad understanding of the stresses of the contemporary workspace and the challenges of traditionally held beliefs. My resultant areas of special interest are:
- Questioning traditionally assigned gender roles
- The complexities of trauma and shame: fear and lack of safety, harmful coping strategies, self-criticism and emotional suffering, relationship difficulties
- Confronting existential issues such as finding your values in life, death, and the ageing process
- Displacement and home sickness and the difficulties of communicating in a second language
- Bereavement
- Work stresses
- Working with adult survivors of childhood abuse
- Working with creatives given my artistic nature (I’m an artist/painter)
Additionally, I have experience of working with all forms of neuro-diversity, sexual abuse, anxiety, and depression, LGBTQIA+ identities, and living with illness and disability. What is more, I am fascinated to work with both accredited therapists and therapists in training who share a passion for mental health.
As your therapist, I prioritise a collaborative, down-to-earth approach, working with you in the present moment. I believe in a “horizontal” relationship—no hierarchy, just one human supporting another through life’s ups and downs. Rather than analysing or labelling, I focus on validating your experience and helping you connect with yourself on multiple levels: body, mind, and spirit.
I place great importance on the therapist-client relationship, paying close attention to our dynamic and ensuring we progress together comfortably. My role is to support your self-discovery and awareness, creating a space where you feel understood and empowered on your journey toward growth.

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if it’s new to you. To help ease any uncertainties, I offer a free, brief online consultation where we can introduce ourselves and discuss your reasons for seeking therapy. Online Therapy
With the increase in remote work since the pandemic, I’ve noticed a growing preference for online therapy, and I’m more than happy to offer sessions virtually if that suits you best. You can book an online session here.
The cost of sessions is set at £60-75 per hour (you choose what is affordable), with payment requested within 24 hours. I highly recommend beginning therapy on a weekly basis to establish a consistent and effective routine. This regular cadence can greatly contribute to the progress and success of the therapy process.

” I was a bit nervous of one-to-one therapy – I wasn’t sure if it was really something that was going to work for me, and I was wary of opening up. But I’ve found the conversations with Paul to be really constructive and positive. He has a great ability to listen actively, offer insightful perspectives, and to guide me through moments of self-discovery. From the very beginning his empathic and non-judgemental approach created a welcoming space for me to open up and begin to explore my thoughts and feelings, and through that I’ve developed a deeper understanding of my own processes. I am more reflective, more self-aware, and better able to think my way through daily challenges as a result of the conversations we’ve had – it’s been a wholly positive experience.” Anonymous.
